KEY REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD PRAY AS A CHRISTIAN

KEY REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD PRAY AS A CHRISTIAN

Main Text: Luke 5:16–17; Luke 6:12–19

Luke 5:16-17 King James Version

16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

Luke 6:12-19 King James Version

12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;

14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,

15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,

16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.

17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;

18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.

19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

The passages above reflected that Jesus prayed personally. Also, these prayers preceded major moves and events. As a Christian, you must start with ‘WHY’ if you will do well in any issue in life. Not dealing with WHY leads to failure, mediocrity and ineffectiveness in whatever you do.

Below are some key reasons why you must pray and make prayer a part of your life as a Christian.

WHY MUST YOU PRAY?

  1. You need to pray for your life to come under the influence of divine grace.

You must pray so that your words can be gracious. So that your words don’t flow from your mind alone, spend time alone to pray so that your words will be filled with divine life. For a minister of the gospel, what makes the message touch the hearts of men is the prayer you pray. If a man of God does not pray, he may speak good words, but the life of men are not changed (Acts 4:31–33).

Acts 4:31-33 King James Version

31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all

  1. You must pray and wait on God so He can show you what is unknown to man.

2 Corinthians 2:9-11 King James Version

For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

There are two sides to man: the known and the unknown. If you don’t pray, you will only operate on the known, and the unknown will be kept away from you. But, on the other hand, if you want to operate in the regions of what God knows but is unknown to man, You must pray to know the things that God has prepared for you, which will only be revealed in the place of prayer. (Habakkuk 2:1–3, Luke 9:28–35)

Habakkuk 2:1-3 King James Version

2 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Luke 9:28-35 King James Version

28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.

29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.

30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:

31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.

32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.

33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.

34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.

35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

  1. You must pray so as to become a tool in the hands of God.

YOU ARE A TOOL OF THE SPIRIT YOU SPEND YOUR TIME WITH MOST IN LIFE.

If you fellowship with the spirit of wickedness, you will become its tool. If you fellowship with the Holy Spirit, you will become His tool. Spend time with God in the place of prayer to become a tool in God’s hand, a blessing to your family and your generation. If God will use you as a vessel, then wait upon him. Without prayer, a man cannot become a tool God can use. Although God can use a man despite himself, let your life be in a condition that God will work in you, work with you and work through you. When you spend time praying, God does not only use you; He makes you. So you grow with growth.

  1. You pray so that you can enlist and secure Heaven’s participation in your journey in life’s journey.

If you embark on some projects and activities without God on your side, you cannot carry them through. You must spend time enlisting God’s resources and His divine involvement.

If you do not pray, you will meet men that are more than one man in the spirit. Therefore, do not let the devil reduce you to a one-over-seven man because you are not praying.

When you pray, you enlist divine involvement. God gets involved, barriers are moved, and obstacles are shifted.

Zechariah 1:18-21 King James Version

18 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.

19 And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.

20 And the Lord shewed me four carpenters.

21 Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.

Zechariah 4:6 King James Version

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

If you don’t pray, you will be a mean man. So for the day, you meet men that are not ordinary, you must spend time praying.

  1. Prayer is a bridge that creates a platform through which diverse supernatural transaction takes place.

Like the stock market, you must be an authorized broker to be involved in the transactions. It is the same in the spirit realm; divine transactions and activities are going on in the spirit realm. God has authorized you to participate in those transactions, and when you pray, you get involved in the divine transaction.

If you don’t pray as a Christian, you can unknowingly get involved in the transaction with other spirits–demonic transactions. In the spirit realm, there is a 24/7 transaction: divine and demonic transaction. Getting into prayer is like being licensed. In prayer, you are involved in receiving and delivering (1 Cor. 11:23).

1 Corinthians 11:23 King James Version

23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:

If you don’t pray, you cannot get involved, and if you try to, it will not be long before Satan makes you participate in the demonic.

Spend time praying because you are involved. Don’t be cut in the wrong transaction.

  • Ahab–1 Kings 22: 1–40

Kings 22:30-32 King James Version

30 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.

31 But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.

32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.

  • Joshua the High Priest–Zechariah 3: 1–7

Zechariah 3:1-3 King James Version

3 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.

There will be times that you are contesting for a seat, those you are contesting against are already consulting spirits, and you must also be in transaction and consultation with the Spirit of God. You cannot get to that stage and say I want to go and pray; you must have prayed ahead.

As a student, you should spend time praying, and God will go ahead of you, guide you and even give you the secret of the exams well ahead.

  1. You must pray so that you don’t fall into temptation and traps of the devil.

Matthew 26:41 King James Version

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

The devil sets traps and temptations for people in life, but if you pray, you will avoid them and navigate around them. If you do not, the devil will lure you into the temptations and traps of the devil. When we pray, God interrupts every operation of the enemy and brings intervention for His people.

  1. You must pray to connect your earthly calendar to the divine schedule for your life.

It was in the place of study that Daniel became aware of the divine calendar of God for Israel when they were in captivity. He began to pray to connect his Life and Israel to the divine calendar (Daniel 9:1–3)

Daniel 9:1-3 King James Version

9 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;

In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

There is a divine calendar, and it positions your life ahead of the natural calendar. The Divine calendar is specific to you. It positions your life ahead of the natural calendar. The Divine calendar accelerates your natural journey; it makes you keep pace with God’s programme for your life and make you operate ahead of your natural age.

  1. Prayer brings us to the place of accuracy in life and destiny

Jesus chose the 12 disciples after prayer.

Every calling has a prophetic side. Every life and destiny has a prophetic side. In prayer, the door to the prophetic side of your life is opened.

There are information, schedules and activities on the prophetic side that you must pick up, but that will only happen in the place of prayer. As you pray, the step to take on the physical side is open.

The key that opens the door to the prophetic side of your life and destiny is PRAYER. If you don’t pray, you will only be limited to the natural side.

Anytime God wants to add to you and take you higher, God calls you to Pray. If you are not aware of your prophetic side, the devil can get so close to you, and you are not aware and make life difficult for you if you don’t pray.

God reduces the stress of your life. However, the prophetic side is under the control of God, so you have to pray.

Age is not a factor in functioning on the spiritual side. If you don’t pray, the devil wants to contain you in the realm of the physical.

Take the prophetic SIDE OF YOUR LIFE SERIOUS BY TAKING TIME TO PRAY.

If you don’t pray and you try to fake things, the devil will assist you with familiar spirits, so pray. Take heed to the spiritual side. There is no way you can be effective in ministering without knowing.

IT’S TIME TO GET BACK TO PRAYER; STOP MISSING YOUR APPOINTMENT WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AND ANGELS.

  1. You must pray so that His Almightiness can take over your ability and disability.

Every human being has abilities and disabilities. When you pray, God swallows both, so men do not know what you have and what you do not have. If you don’t pray, your ability or disability will take over, and the devil can handle the two. If you don’t pray, your ability makes you proud; your disability makes you inferior. You must pray so that your faith can hold you up and don’t fail.

Jude 20 King James Version

20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

When you pray, your faith will not fail. Spending time in prayer strengthens the spirit of faith and boosts your confidence in God.
