When two friends embark on a journey, and one is headed to Sokoto while the other is bound for Yobe, the first and most crucial question they must ask isn’t about the cost of the journey but rather, “Where is this vehicle going?” Once they establish the vehicle’s destination, it becomes clear that a separation is necessary for each to reach their intended destination. This principle holds true not only in physical journeys but also in our spiritual and life journeys.
Separation for Divine Purpose
In Genesis 22:4, we read about Abraham’s journey to the place of sacrifice:
“Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.”
Abraham’s vision of where he was going led him to make a critical decision—he separated from the young men who had accompanied him up to that point. In verse 5, Abraham instructs them to stay behind while he goes further to worship God alone:
“And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.”
This separation wasn’t out of disdain or lack of affection for his companions; rather, it was a necessary step for Abraham to fulfil God’s specific call on his life. The young men were not meant to follow him to the place of sacrifice—this was a journey that required Abraham to be alone with God.
Separation: A Step Toward Destiny
Just as Abraham had to separate from those who were not meant to accompany him to his place of divine encounter, so must we recognize when it’s time to part ways with certain people, situations, or even habits. This isn’t always easy, especially when we’ve travelled a long way with them. But no matter how far you’ve come with others, there will come a point where separation is necessary for you to arrive at your God-ordained destiny.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us,
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
There is a time to walk with others, and there is a time to walk alone. Understanding and accepting this divine timing is key to fulfilling our purpose.
The Role of the HolySpirit
It’s essential to rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance in recognizing when separation is required. Romans 8:14 says,
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
The Holy Spirit leads us in all truth, and He will reveal to us the moments when we must step away from certain relationships or situations to walk closer with God and move forward in our calling.
Conclusion
Separation is not a sign of failure or rejection but a strategic move towards fulfilling your destiny. Just as a vehicle cannot take two people to different destinations simultaneously, your life journey may require you to separate from those who are not heading where God is leading you. Embrace these moments as part of God’s divine plan, and trust that He is guiding you to the place He has prepared for you.
Remember, separation for arrival is not just about leaving people behind; it’s about advancing towards your God-given purpose. May the Lord give you the wisdom and courage to make the necessary separations, so that you can arrive at the divine destination He has set for you.
Until next time, go and win with Jesus
